Dr Birka Lehmann is former Head of Executive Department, EU and International Affairs, for the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM). She was a member of the Paediatric Committee at the European Medicines Agency (PDCO) until the end of 2015.
Birka studied Medicines at the Free University Berlin and trained at the Kinderklinik Norderney. She worked in the area of pre-clinical assessment in the Pharmacology and Toxicology division of BfArM, serving as head of the Decentralised Procedure unit, as deputy head of the EU Division, and as head of the division 3 “Marketing Authorisation procedure”.
For several years she served at the European Commission's Directorate-General Enterprise and Industry as an expert seconded to the Pharmaceuticals unit responsible for inter alia Marketing Authorisation and implementation of the Clinical Trials Directive.
She has been a lecturer at the University Bonn on Drug Regulatory Affairs since 1999. She has also lectured at the University Duisburg/Essen and the University Kopenhagen (Medicademy).
